Smart Village LTDElgeyo Marakwet Rd, Ngong Rd, Nairobi
This is my favorite Eritrean restaurant and I love the food. However, it is advisable to call and pre-order as food takes about 30 minutes or so to be served but it is well worth it. Their traditional alcoholic drinks is very sweet and nice I forget the name. They have a very good restaurant lady manager who can guide the newbies on the menu options as the waiting staff are not very fluent in English. They now serve nyama choma and it is quite the treat as well.
Arguably the best Eritrean restaurant in Nairobi in terms of value for money. The African themed ambience will make you go back. Their Doro Wot and Kitfo were amazing and served in great portions. Another plus for them is the fresh fruit juice they serve.
You would have to be a regular to know their best dishes (the ones not in the menu) like 'beteen'. The service is okayish, the ambience was beautiful to look at with the tree log themed seats and tables which they have now changed to a safer and simple seating arrangement. Smart Village is a potential under-utilized. They have their good days and their bad days. The coffee ceremony area is beautiful. They could also have a bigger TV or project during games instead of the TV currently present. The coffee and cake on the cafe side are also relatively great, but not many people know about it.
The service here is very slow and also food took a very long time to come from the time we ordered. I would understand 20 min but 45 minutes is a bit unreasonable. That was redeemed by their food however, which was hot and quite tasty. They need to work on their outside seating it seems to have been done a tad bit shabbily..
AMAZING coffee, good food, reservations was ready and held for us. Would have appreciated more menu guidance and options for changing the platter items around.
